Selection Process Update

English Team Selection Process for the 2022 World Championships

Updated information 1st March 2022

To be read along with the Selection Process as detail below

1. A competitor’s ranking will be based on their best 3 results from the events listed in the ESK website events section 2022.

2. As we currently understand the Team for the World’s will include “Male Masters” and not “Male Grand Masters”. As such we will be selecting Male Masters from the Men’s over 40’s class and not the Men’s over 50 class. For older men who wish to be considered we recommend that you compete in the over 40’s classes of competitions in order to gain ranking points.

3. If a competitor can not find their chosen class in an event they should firstly discuss this with the event organiser and then if required contact the ESKC.

4. The Handicap system of competition is a great way of encouraging new paddlers into the sport. It is at the discretion of the event organiser as to whether this event includes the Open HP class.

Selection Process for 2022 World Championships

We will be selecting a team to represent England at the World Championships being run in Bude from 29th September to 9th October 2022.

The final team structure is still to be finalised but it will be made up of paddles in the following classes:-

Open Short Boat

Open Long Boat

Womans Short Boat

Women’s Long Boat

Masters Short Boat

Masters Long Boat

Junior Short Boat

Junior Long Boat

Plus Reserves

As the team structure becomes certain we will update the details on this website.

Selection for this team will be offered to those paddlers who are at the top of the ranking list for the relevant categories following the selected events that are listed above.

Scores will be allocated to paddlers based on the following system:-

1st place - 300 points

2nd place - 190 points

3rd place - 140 points

4th place - 100 points

5th place - 75 points

6th place - 74 points

7th and so on 1 point less for every place so 73, 72, 71 etc

The scores from the events above will be added together to give a ranking list from which team selection will be made.

All of these events are affected by unpredictable weather and surf conditions. Organisers can cancel events for any reason and so we would encourage those interested in representing England to sign up for as many of these contests as possible.

Questions regarding Team Selection can be directed to the ESK committee. Simon Hammond (chairman) info@shorelineactivities.co.uk
